SPYnimalia
A downloadable game
"SPYnimalia is a government agency responsible for monitoring all the crimimal masterminds in New Vertebrata and preventing crimes from happening. Batricia Chiroptera is the big boss of SPYnimalia and is about to retire after years of service and hard work. You four are the best spies SPYnimalia had since Batricia, but only one can step in and assume her role. Rumors are spreading on the streets that a major crime is being planned. Now is your time to use all your intelligence, charm, and dubious methods to gather intel, stop the big crime from happening before your colleagues, and, of course, impress Batricia and become the new boss."
MATERIALS NEEDED TO PLAY:
The game’s illustrated evidence board (printed or not) and a deck of cards. You can use paper and a pencil to help you keep track of the intel you collect during the game.
HOW TO PLAY:
First, remove from your deck of cards all the kings, queens, jacks, and jokers and put them in a pile called the Special Deck that will be used in the Special Round. Next, separate the remaining cards (A to 10) into four piles based on their suits. Each suit represents one element of the Big Crime: HEARTS (♥) represent the victim, DIAMONDS (♦) represent the crime scene, CLUBS (♣) represent the perpetrator, and SPADES (♠) represent the murder weapon. With the four piles individually shuffled, one cord from each pile should be drawn and kept turned down out of the player's view. This will represent the victim, crime scene, murder weapon, and perpetrator of the Big Crime. After the Big Crime is defined, shuffle the remaining cards from the four piles together in a big pile that will serve as the Intel Deck. The game has two types of rounds, which will take place alternately: the Intel Collection Round and the Special Round. The game starts with an Intel Collection Round.
During the Intel Collection Round, each player must draw a card from the Intel Deck. After each player has their new piece of information, they must formulate a sentence with one true piece of information (the card that was collected) and one false piece of information (a card they don't have in their hand).
For example, player A bought the Duckchess card but doesn't have the Two-Headed Snake Tower card in his hand, so he could say something like "My sources say that the Duckchess will be busy at a charity event at the Two-Headed Snake Tower, so it's not likely that she'll be involved in the Big Crime". All players should pay close attention to the story because it's possible that you hold the information card that the player decided to use as false, so by exclusion you can find out what the real information they have is. After all the players have proclaimed their sentences, this round is finished.
You should use the illustrated Evidence Board to help you identify what each card means. For example, if you draw the 10 of Hearts (♥) and look at the Evidence Board, you will see that the intel you receive represents a possible victim, Marten Antoinette. If you draw the 4 of Diamonds (♦) and look at the Evidence Board, you will see that the intel you receive represents a possible crime scene, the Train.
During the Special Round, a card will be drawn from the Special Deck, and that card will dictate what happens:
- King: All players can draw two cards from the Inted Deck in the next Intel Collection Round (during the Intel Collection Round, each player chooses only one of the collected cards to use as true information);
- Queen: Each player can steal a card from the player on the left;
- Jack: Each player has to pass a card to the player on the right;
- Joker: Everyone must choose a card from their hand to place in the center of the table, where it will be shuffled together with the joker. Then each player chooses a card, and the remaining one is returned to the information pile. In this round, you can receive new information, the same information you already had, or no information at all (joker card).
The players must utilize these rounds to gather intel to help solve the Big Crime by exclusion. The objective of the game is to collect as much intel as you can to help you discover, by exclusion, what the four cards of the Big Crime are. When a player is assured they know every detail of the Big Crime, they can declare victory and examine the Big Crime cards. If they are accurate, they win the game; if they are incorrect, they are removed from the game, all of their information is revealed, and the other players can continue the game.
